Libertytown United Methodist Church

The town's three historic churches are an important part of the its landscape. The Methodist Episcopal Church was built on Main Street around 1804 and the Methodist Protestant Church was built down the street in 1828. Builders moved the stained glass windows from the older church to the newer one.
The current incarnation of the Liberty-Central United Methodist Church, located at the 1828 building, is the result of three mergers.
The town was first mapped and plotted in 1782. According to informal histories, its name changed from Duke's Woods to Liberty and later Libertytown as a reflection of the revolutionary spirit pervading the country following the war of independence.
Several buildings from the late 18th and 19th century remain, as well as newer architectural examples from the 1940s.
