Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville

This church, located on main street in Lawrenceville, NJ, was built in 1764 and enlarged in 1853. It stands at the site of an earlier Presbyterian meetinghouse, which was built in the early 1700's. John Hart, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, was baptized at that earlier meetinghouse on March 4, 1714. Throughout this time period, this area was known as Maidenhead, until the name was changed to Lawrence Township in 1816, after James Lawrence, a hero of the War of 1812. There are at least five Revolutionary War soldiers buried in the cemetery.
